The world has lost a beautiful soul, and I have lost a dear, lifelong friend. It breaks my heart to write these words. Rest in peace, Gail.
Such a sweet person, Terry, and so hard to think of his passing that young, that soon in war.
Yes, that is right, Locke. I was mistaken. It was Harriet and Archie that joined Yvonne and Leon to begin the painful process of integration. Such brave souls. And, funny, too. I shared a desk with Archie in Mr. Bynum's science class, and I laugh out loud to this day remembering some of the hilarious comments that he made then.
I am heartbroken to hear that Yvonne Franklin has passed, I remember her courage and elegance when she and her twin brother, Leon, along with Gerard (Davidson?) and I believe Lolita Chavis integrated our white, white, white public school. We could all take a lesson from their bravery and self-possession and determination. Rest in peace, sweet, beautiful Yvonne.
