I Just Checked for an obituary.  I just thought others might want to know the date of when our friend died He was very young.. Dr. Rubin Franklin Maness, 48, of 111 Walnut Creek Drive, Pediatrician with Goldsboro Pediatrics, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999.

Dr. Maness was a graduate 1972 of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and was a 1976 honor graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received his M.D. degree. He completed his residency assignment at the North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill and the Pediatric Allergy Elective at Duke University Medical Center in 1979. Dr. Maness was certified from the American Board of Pediatrics, the North Carolina State Department of Human Resources as a Child Medical Examiner, and the Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

Some of our class were at Rubin's funeral. Rubin died they think of sleep apnea. Back then this was just being discovered in the medical world. Rubin had two daughters . He was Godfather to my oldest son.. Rubin and I were dear friends and I think of him often and miss him dearly...Dee Ham

Dee, How tragic for someone so young and who was contributing so much to die from sleep apnea.  Most of us are unaware of how deadly sleep issues can be.  I wish I had known Rubin.

Rubin was probably one of the most caring pediatricians I have ever known. I was truely blessed to have known him...
